Watamu – at the entrance of paradies

Watamu, is a small village with approx. 5000 inhabitants situated directly at the shores of the Indian Ocean, barely 30 Kilometer south of Malindi and approx. 100 km north of Mombasa.

Watamu lies in the middle of a sea sector and with this it is part of the Marine -Nationalpark Watamu, Marine National Reserve. Together with Malindi it is one of the bigger Marine National Parks in the Kenyan Biosphere Reserves as well as a part of the united Nations Biosphere Reserves. The small Whale Island is situated in the outlet of the Mida Creek where innumerable birds are nesting - for people interested in ornithology a heaven of bird watching.

It is not uncommon to spot manta rays, whale sharks, delphines and turtles within and outside this bay.
